MKP Photography Web
One of the more challenging aspects of web design is in building user interfaces that focus attention in the right places. For this reason we focused the viewer's eye on the imagery and subdued all other aspects of the site. We decided to build the site in Actionscript to leverage on the image quality, loading and dynamic advantages of Flash.
The Gallery
The gallery is the heart of this website so it was paramount to design one that did not detract from the imagery but added to it. No big, flashy buttons and no outrageous transitions. The mechanical elements were designed to be subliminal and the goal was to create a smooth journey of discovery through the eyes of the photographer.
Elements of Discovery
The playful nature and elements of discovery that Mon-wei was after is echoed in the function of the gallery. The thumbnail window pane is concealed and revealed on mouse over. The next and previous buttons also reveal themselves depending on the position of viewer's mouse. Both functions help to focus attention and increase interaction.
Simply Effective
All the way down to the Contact Page we used Mon-wei's art as a focal point for what we were trying to achieve. We believe that there's nothing better than making something work simply brilliantly and this page is a statement of just that.
